You've Got To Be Kidding Me
After two days of a scratchy throat I decided to take a closer look. So, I walked into my bathroom, opened wide, and aimed my book light (in lieu of a flashlight) into the back of my mouth. The image staring back at me in the mirror looked remarkably like this:
Ew. I have strep throat.
Funny part is that I had excellent insurance coverage until my job ended on Monday. Three. Days. Ago. Are you kidding me?!
Why is it that you never need insurance until you don't have it?

It's all that playing in the snow! ;) Seriously, get some insurance FAST. Slip and tear your ACL with no insurance and you'll be sorry. I was looking at my medical statements...$600 xrays, $1000 MRI, not counting surgery, doctors visits and physical therapy--don't let something like this catch you uninsured!

COBRA!!!!!
Get Insurance!!!
Whoa..been a while since I stopped by! I hope you found a job already. You didn't write any details but I am guessing you were laid off?
I was laid off last December and was fortunately to have 8 weeks severance. I skipped the COBRA (the HR person there was a grace period where I could pay the premium and they'd honor the coverage so I figured I'd see if I could find work w/in the grace period..).
COBRA is expensive!!
A health insurance broker was recommended to me and depending on your state, you can use a broker. The broker told me that some states you have to call the health plans and set them up yourself. My broker has been terrific and her job hasn't stopped with just finding me plan - she also runs interference! Not that I've needed any but she's been great.
I did find another job but I opted out of their health plan and instead am self-insurance via a high-deductible plan. I can even sign up for a tax-deductive HSA (Health Savings Account). Not having Employer-Provided health insurance is a bit freeing - I don't feel as shackled to the job!
Not that I feel shackled, I am liking my job.
My insurance is A LOT cheaper than what my former employer paid and the most I could pay out of pocket is something like $6500 including the premiums. Good luck!
